In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you and greetings of unity, as well as Malaysia Madani greetings.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Allah S.W.T. for, with His permission and grace, the Malayan Nurses Union (MNU) website and application have been successfully launched. This publication is the result of the hard work and commitment of the MNU executive committee, as well as the cooperation of all committee members. Now, this website and application can be accessed by all MNU members.

The MNU application was launched at the previous TDC Meeting, held on 26th September 2023 at TWC, Kuala Lumpur, by the former President, Puan Norhayati binti Rashid. Nearly 1,000 MNU members attended that TDC meeting.

The main objectives of developing this application are to:

• Ensure that members always receive the latest information regarding the union and activities organized by the 12 MNU branches across Peninsular Malaysia.
• Strengthen the bond between members from all 12 branches.
• Provide a platform for members to enhance their understanding of the history of MNU's establishment, its objectives, and the role MNU plays in safeguarding the welfare of members, especially nurses in Malaysia.

A trade union is an organization formed by workers within a specific industry (in-house union), in a department, ministry, or organization registered under the Trade Unions Act 1959.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 98, recognized by the Malaysian government, workers have the right to form trade unions and initiate collective bargaining. This is a right granted to every worker in this country to establish or join any union of their choice. Every worker must know the rights and powers granted to them as workers in Malaysia.

I would like to emphasize that the primary purpose of establishing the MNU union is to:

• Foster good relations between workers and employers so that industrial harmony can be maintained, while also improving productivity.
• MNU represents members in resolving industrial disputes and takes appropriate actions to address issues between workers and employers related to terms and conditions of employment.
• MNU also plays an important role in protecting the rights and interests of workers and represents all workers at the Departmental Joint Council (MBJ) and the National Joint Council (MBK) levels.
• The success of MNU’s role depends on the commitment and cooperation from all parties. Without determination, teamwork, and strong collaboration, the efforts planned will not achieve the desired outcomes.

Finally, I would like to extend my highest appreciation and gratitude to all those involved in the publication of the MNU website and application.
